10 Remedies to Heal Kidney Stones


Anyone who suffers from kidney stones will appreciate just how debilitating they can be. They cause chronic pain, tenderness in the kidney area, and can even result in blood in your urine, which may also be accompanied by an unpleasant smell

Prevention is Better than Cure

But before you go scurrying off to your doctor, there are a number of natural remedies that can be used to cure kidney stones. These remedies can be worked into a diet to produce a more healthy living style. If you haven’t developed kidney stones, these tips, when followed, will promote holistic health, and help to prevent the stones from forming in the first place, and you know what they say – prevention is better than cure.

Kidney Stones are a Common Ailment

You don’t have to be particularly clever to form kidney stones. Now, if you could form rhinestones – you would have something! Probably just as painful though. The formation of kidney stones is surprisingly common. Statistics show they are quite common and effect up to 1 person in 10 in mainland Europe, and 1 in every 11 people in the USA – Small wonder then that a lot of people will be interested in finding out how to heal kidney stones in a wholly natural way.

Kidney stones are made up from various chemicals. These include: calcium, oxalic acid, phosphorous, and uric acid. They can be caused by excesses of vitamin D, an imbalance of minerals, dehydration, gout, and poor diet. As well as the symptoms already mentioned, other signs include:

  • A need to urinate often
  • Pain when urinating,
  • Feeling nauseous,
  • vomiting
  • Perspiring excessively

Not nice – but the good news is there are natural ways to heal kidney stones or even prevent them.

Natural Remedies for Kidney Stones

In the majority of cases, kidney stones can be successfully dealt with without having to go to see your doctor, and without having to take any drugs, or undergo any invasive procedures. Unless you have any specific allergies, none of the following remedies will have any adverse side effects as they are all 100% natural.

Remedy # 1 Water

Any sort of healthy lifestyle demands plenty of water – about 8 to 10 glasses per day. When you drink this amount you’ll find that your urine becomes clear – more like water itself. Good quality mineral water is best. It helps to dilute the concentrations of calcium and uric acid, making your urine less alkaline. As well as helping the prevention of kidney stones in the first place, if you already have them, this will help to prevent them from increasing in size.

Remedy #2 Lemon Juice

This next remedy in our article on how to deal with kidney stones is Lemon Juice. It’s full of citric acid, which helps to break down any stones that have calcium as a base. All you have to do is to add a few drops of lemon juice into two or three of the glasses of mineral water that you consume each day.


Don’t worry – when dissolved in a glass of water, it won’t taste too sharp, so don’t be lemon – man up – or woman up (hmm that doesn’t quite sound the same), and take your daily dose.

Remedy #3 Nettle Leafs

No, you don’t have to go wading into a patch of nettles and sting yourself stupid; simply drink 2 or 3 cups of Nettle Leaf tea per day. This will improve your flow of urine, and help to prevent any crystals from turning into kidney stones.

Remedy #4 Dandelion Root

Organic dandelion root is a great kidney tonic and cleanser. Taking up to 500 mg twice a day may be beneficial.

Remedy #5 Lemon Juice, Olive Oil, and Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

This is one of my favorites and easily one of the most effective remedies for kidney stones and the pain they cause. At the first symptom of stone pain, mix 2 oz of organic olive oil with 2 oz of organic lemon juice.

Drink it straight and follow with a 12 ounce glass of purified water. Wait 30 minutes. Then, squeeze the juice of 1/2 lemon into 12 ounces of purified water, add 1 tablespoon of organic raw apple cider vinegar and drink. Repeat the lemon juice, water and apple cider vinegar recipe every hour until symptoms improve.

Remedy #6 Kidney Beans

Kidney Beans are an effective treatment for kidney stones or any sort of urine infection. As well as eating them whole, in soups and chili and casseroles, it is most beneficial to drink a concoction made by boiling the bean shells in water. Strain the concoction and sip it throughout the course of the day. Do not keep it for more than 24 hours.

Remedy #7 Basil


Basil is good for overall kidney health. You can take it by mixing equal amounts of basil juice and honey, by drinking basil tea, or by simply chewing 5 to 6 basil leaves per day.

Remedy #8 Celery

For those who already have kidney stones, drinking a glass of celery juice every day is highly recommended. It has antiseptic qualities which can help with pain relief, and it also helps to dispel the toxins that allow kidney stones to form. Celery also has diuretic properties that help to break down any existing stones.

Remedy # 9 Pomegranate

Pomegranate helps to dissolves the gravel in kidney stones. Try adding it to salads. It makes a tasty change. Alternatively, you can drink freshly squeezed Pomegranate juice.

Remedy # 10 Watermelon

Watermelon is especially good for treating kidney stones that are made from calcium, carbonates, and magnesium phosphate. Watermelons contain potassium, which is particularly good for controlling the amount of acid in urine. They also contain plenty of water, which is helpful for washing out the stones.

Now you know how to heal kidney stones through natural diet as part of a more holistic lifestyle, you can incorporate as few, or as many of the remedies shown above as you are able to, and feel comfortable with. In the rare occasions where these remedies do not counteract the symptoms, you should go and see your GP.
