4 Popular Problems that Bananas can Fix

Bananas are one of those special fruits that are commonly eaten around the clock. Some people eat them on the side with their breakfast, some parents mash them into baby food, and they’re even useful for a quick, pre-workout snack. They give you a healthy dose of potassium, which is vital for maintaining heart, kidney, joint health and more. On top of that, bananas also give you a quick burst of energy that your body can make use of while you’re active.

But while bananas are a huge factor in the maintenance of your overall health, that’s nowhere near the end of the story. Research has shown that bananas are actually capable of managing and preventing a number of popular health problems – some of which can be as mildly irritating as farting, to being as severe and invasive as high blood pressure and depression.

So, even though you’re probably eating bananas for a quick snack, or as a last-resort breakfast when you’re late leaving for work – you may actually be preventing these big four health problems when you gobble one down:

1. High Stress

Let’s face it, stress is hard to avoid. These days, there’s always so much going on in our lives. Especially in the US, many of us are subject to fast-paced environments where it becomes a challenge keeping ourselves from getting overwhelmed on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, that also exposes us to a number of health problems that are associated with stress. Some of these include weight gain, insomnia, heart disease, and more. Either way, the less stressed you are – the better.

Stress kicks your metabolism into hyper-drive, causing your body to burn through its potassium stores more quickly. As a result, your body has difficulty normalizing heart beat, regulating water content, and getting valuable oxygen into your brain. The result? More stress.

2. Poor Blood Pressure

There is an association between the combination of both high sodium intake and low potassium levels, and the negative effect that the tandem have on blood pressure. Keep in mind that the modern American diet tends to be a little too rich in sodium, where valuable nutrients are often neglected. Once again, the rich potassium intake of bananas comes in handy, where eating one a day can help keep your blood pressure levels in an optimal state.

3. Constipation and Flatulence

Many of the causes of constipation and flatulence come back to poor digestion. If your gastrointestinal processes aren’t working properly, then these two symptoms are often a sign that something needs to be changed.

The pectin content in bananas is responsible for upping the efficiency of your digestion and helps cleanse your body of toxins. That’s why bananas are often a go-to in a number of colon cleansing diets. They stimulate your intestines and help your waste flow a little more easily, helping you get the bad stuff out as quickly as possible.

4. Depression

Bananas can help elevate your mood. Bananas carry a good supply of tryptophan, which is often mistakenly attributed as being responsible for the “sleepy” feelings brought upon by eating turkey. Rather, tryptophan metabolizes into serotonin – the feel good neurotransmitter. In a nutshell, it makes you feel calm, relaxed, and even euphoric.

While bananas are pretty much always a healthy option, make sure that you’re going for organic options. The GMO grown ones are becoming more and more available, but lack the nutritional quality, taste, and chemical-free benefits that you get from real, organic foods.
