Today's Focus Healthy Vacations Summer is finally here and the kids are out of school for 10 weeks! It's vacation time again! The summer months always represented fun and adventure for our family. Growing up we always took alternative vacations primarily because we didn't have a lot of money, something we never noticed as kids. My parents would take us camping at the local beaches and create great experiences for us all summer long thus building great memories of our childhood. They even made picking vegetables on a hot summer day for extra money seem like an adventure! Have you ever considered an alternative vacation? Today many organizations have come out with structured alternative vacations where you and your family can experience new and exciting cultures, help people in need and even learn how to do organic farming. The opportunities are endless and some even offer free room and board in exchange for your support. WWOOF is an organization dedicated to helping those who would like to volunteer on organic farms. But the really neat thing is that a lot of these organic farms are run by orphanages, schools and small communities all in need of volunteers for various other projects as well. So it's not just limited to organic farming. Global Volunteers Choose a volunteer vacation abroad or assist USA volunteer programs. Live and work with local people for one, two or three weeks on life-affirming community development projects for one, two or three weeks. With Cross-Cultural Solutions, you’ll volunteer side-by-side with local people and experience another culture first hand. The CCS experience includes organized cultural and learning activities so that you can learn about the local community and their customs through an in-depth orientation, language training, guest speakers, etc.
Latest Articles It is interesting that the one thing we are certain about in this life is that it will end, yet when we lose someone we are never prepared. Emotionally we just don’t seem to be well equipped to deal with such a loss, we either fall apart or head straight for denial. "There comes a moment when you realize that virtually anything is possible-- that nothing is too good to be true." --Kobi Yamoda Everything at one point in history was "impossible," from motor vehicles, to television to putting a man on the moon was all thought to be impossible. But, all we have to do is look at our past to understand that our futures are limitless. The only limits we have are those set by ourselves. Dare to be the person who believes anything is possible. Dare to be the person who achieves all that they desire. Dare to be the person you have always meant to be!
Part of Healthy Living is being committed to supporting causes you are passionate about. If you are so moved please support End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes (ECPAT).
ECPAT is a network of organizations and individuals working together to eliminate the commercial sexual exploitation of children. It seeks to encourage the world community to ensure that children everywhere enjoy their fundamental rights free from all forms of commercial sexual exploitation.
MOLD, it's an on-going battle and if you are trying to eliminate toxins from your home bleach is not an option. I have been reading a lot about the use of hydrogen peroxide for your health as well as for your home and I am happy to report that good old hydrogen peroxide, that little brown bottle you keep handy for cuts and scraps can be used to clean the mold in your shower! Hydrogen peroxide is the way to go. Make a solution using 1/2 cup of 3-percent hydrogen peroxide mix it with 1 cup water in a spray bottle. Spray mold areas but do not rinse. Hydrogen peroxide will lose its effectiveness once exposed to air so only make enough solution to use one time. To learn more about healthy homes go to My Healthy Home
Listed below are some of my favorite products. One thing I have found with buying organic or all-natural products is that sometimes you have to try two or three before you find one that works. So hopefully I can help by making a few recommendations!
