TODAY’S FOCUS
A Change in Season - Using Nature's Wisdom as an opportunity for change

With each changing season comes an opportunity for us to reflect, assess and redirect ourselves as nature does. As fall settles upon us, it is a natural time for change. A time to let the old fall to the wayside and nestle in to do some deep healing and growth. Nature's seasons can be used to initiate oneself into the next level of spiritual and personal development. The tasks for autumn are to acknowledge change, get support, create your own refuge and review your options.

Seasons always seem to stimulate change for me and since Healthy Holistic Living.com is an extension of myself, it seemed only a matter of time before I would naturally fall into the next step in the evolution of my site. Come see and feel our new look Healthy Holistic Living It was time for me to grow and now I am looking towards more growth in future.

Today’s Inspiration

"The only thing constant in life is change" ---- François de la Rochefoucauld

Change is the one thing you can count on in life so you might as well celebrate it!

Take Action

Part of Healthy Living is being committed to supporting causes you are passionate about. If you are so moved, please support Heifer International

Helping people help themselves is the cornerstone of this wonderful organization. Heifer International provides farm animals to poverty stricken families around the world giving them a means to feed themselves and part of their community. This simple idea of giving families a source of food rather than short-term relief caught on and has continued for over 60 years. Today, millions of families in 128 countries have been given the gifts of self-reliance and hope.

Healthy Home Tip

Following the theme of change, make one change...just one that will directly impact your families health and well being. And not to mention mother nature!

With that in mind, you could:

-change your laundry soap to an all-natural brand
-use vinegar to clean glass surfaces instead of glass cleaner
-instead of buying plastic water bottles consider using reusable stainless steel bottles
-change your standard light bulb to an energy efficient light bulb
- if you use air freshener consider an alternative, place a drop of a natural essential oil like lavender or mint on a cold light bulb, or add a dozen drops to a bowl of water placed on a radiator or wood stove. You can also boil fragrant dried herbs in a pot of water to release a fresh smell.

Listed below are some of my favorite products. One thing I have found with buying organic or all-natural products is that sometimes you have to try two or three before you find one that works. So hopefully I can help by making a few recommendations!

Seventh Generation Liquid Laundry Detergent

This is a great natural laundry detergent I highly recommend it! Free & Clear of dyes and perfumes, Non-toxic and hypoallergenic, Free of chlorine, phosphates, optical brighteners, petroleum-based ingredients and it’s Biodegradable and safe for septic and grey water systems. If every household in the U.S. replaced one bottle of petroleum-based 2X liquid laundry detergent with one bottle of our plant-based product, we could save 233,000 barrels of oil, enough to heat & cool 13,400 U.S. homes for a year! Seventh Generation Laundry Concentrate, Free & Clear, 50-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6)

Essential Oils

Mountain Rose Herbs has wonderful products they carry An excellent Essential Oil beginner's kit that features the most popularly used essential oils in one convenient kit. Each sampler includes a general use and information card, an extra bottle with a glass dropper and is packaged in a lovely custom designed cloth pouch for storage and transportation. Contains all certified organic oils of: Eucalyptus, Geranium, Lavender, Peppermint, Rosemary and Tea Tree. Set of six 1/4-ounce bottles. Mountain Rose Herbs

Reusable Water Bottles

SIGG the original Swiss bottle -- an incredibly well made reusable bottle that is great looking and safe. Design features make it ideal for boating, hiking, travel, sports or just everyday use. Often copied but never matched. Avoid cheap imitations and knockoffs. SIGG Lining – Taste Neutral & Safe The proprietary SIGG bottle liner is taste neutral and resistant to fruit acids and isotonic drinks, guaranteeing easy cleaning and no taste transfer. This special, baked-on inner liner is a water-based epoxy resin exceeding FDA requirements and independently tested (Nehring, Germany) to prove 0% leaching. The liner is flexible and crack resistant even if the bottle is dented. The special liner ensures great taste and easy washing out. ReusableBags.com

Energy Efficient Light Bulbs

Evolution 20 Watt CF Full Spectrum Fluorescent Bulb – consider making a simple change for your health and the environment. Full-spectrum 20-watt fluorescent bulb imitates natural sunlight. Incandescent lamps provide light, but they don't provide the same healthy, natural light of the sun. The Evolution 20-Watt CF Full-Spectrum Bulb simulates the full-spectrum natural outdoor sunlight to provide a healthier indoor environment while also saving energy. The full-spectrum bulb also lasts about 10 times longer than standard incandescent bulbs. Evolution 20 Watt CF Full Spectrum Fluorescent Bulb
