These cells are specialized, and most of the time they do the job that they are supposed to do. However, sometimes, the cells change, and don't react as they are supposed to react. These include tobacco smoke, and chemicals in the workplace, like asbestos, formaldehyde, and benzene. Also age is another factor. As time goes on, the cells in your body are going to be more prone to developing Cancers. Most of the time, this is because there is an accumulation of damage to the cells in your body that happens over time. At the same time, as you age, your body's defenses slow down and you are not as able to fight off infection or problems with your cells.

There are also lifestyle factors that you need to keep in mind when you are thinking about causes of cancer and risk factors for cancer. This includes a poor diet. In fact, if you eat lots of fruits and vegetables, you have less of a chance of developing certain cancers. If you eat too much fatty food, you actually increase your risk of developing certain types of cancers. If you are obese, don't get a lot of exercise, or drink a lot of alcohol, you will also increase your risk of developing these types of cancers.

Radiation is another of the causes of cancer. This includes exposure to radioactive materials, or nuclear fallouts. This can also include too much exposure to the sun. Infections will also increase your likelihood of getting cancers. If you have hepatitis B, or Hepatitis C, you have a greater chance of developing cancer of the liver.

Your immune system is yet another place where cancers can develop. If you have a weakened immune system, for instance, if you have AIDS, you will have a greater chance of someday developing a cancer.

Lastly, your genetic makeup might have a lot to do with your likelihood of developing cancer. This is because of the way that your genetics will play into your body's make up.
