Colonic Therapy: We Are What We Eat
Have you ever considered colonic therapy?
Hippocrates, father of modern medicine wrote: "First cleanse the bowels" he also wrote "All disease begins in the gut." He must have known something because colon cleanse procedures have become a staple down through the ages. What is colonic therapy? First practiced in ancient Egypt in its most basic form, colon therapy was once again made popular in modern times by J.H Kellogg, MD; inventor of corn flakes as well as a practitioner of techniques of good hygiene, which included the colon cleansing procedure. He made his recommendations public in the Journal of American Medical Association for saving the dysfunctional large bowel and the colon cleanse was once again credible. Put simply, colonic therapy is a safe, infusion of purified warm water into the colon or large intestine, which takes care of conditions that interfere with the colons normal functions. It cleanses the colon and has many health benefits. While this is an ancient therapy, it was recommended in the writings of Hippocrates and is quite popular today. What can I expect during a colon cleanse procedure? Colonic cleanse detoxification usually last about 45 minutes where a lubricated speculum is inserted into the patient's rectum, which is then attached to a plastic hose that connects to a colon hydrotherapy machine. During the procedure, the therapist will usually massage the abdomen area gently to loosen any fecal impaction. What are the possible health benefits? A colon that is healthy is at the core of a healthy body. Our diets today are made up of many processed foods, saturated fats and lectins. It is also low in natural fiber and all of these elements contribute to a problem of undigested food and other waste product elimination problems. Colon cleansing procedures help alleviate this problem and add to a more vibrant feeling at the end. Think about it, waste material left in the colon for a prolonged length of time can result in fermentation and putrefication as well as the subsequent proliferation of bacteria and their associated toxins. This can lead to colon cancer, which is the third cause of death in the United States. Are there any dangers or negative side effects? Colon treatment is painless and in many patients, it has been reported that they feel better, calmer and more relaxed during and after the treatment. How Do I Find A Practitioner? Therapists should be trained and certified with medical equipment that meets all of the strict FDA guidelines for medical devices and instruments that come in contact with you body. Recommendations from previous patients should also be available prior to commitment. While colonic therapy has been designed to clean the full length of your colon (usually about 8 feet long), it has been shown that in some patients, it has helped in other non-digestive areas including:
