Frankincense oil has significant meaning within the Christian faith, as this is one of the gifts offered by the three wise men to the newborn, Jesus.  This oil has made its way into numerous religious practices, but is also used in aromatherapy, as well as for medicinal purposes. (1)

Frankincense oil shows potential for alternative cancer treatment

The oil of Frankincense is known for its comforting properties, improving spiritual connection and overcoming stress or depression.  When used in aromatherapy, the oil is inhaled and has a sedative effect that creates a feeling peace and relaxation, while decreasing feelings of stress, anger and anxiety. It is also known for promoting healthy cell regeneration, and is useful for keeping skin healthy, treating dry skin, reversing signs of aging, and reducing the appearances of stretch marks and scars.  The oil can be used to strengthen gums and hair roots, stop wounds from bleeding, speed up healing of cuts, acne, insect bites, and boils. Research from Cardiff University found that Frankincense inhibits the production of inflammatory molecules, and helps prevent the breakdown of cartilage tissue that causes arthritis.  Along these lines, the oil was found to reduce pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis. (1)

The oil is also useful in breaking up phlegm in the respiratory tract for those suffering from bronchitis.  The oil can also be used to prevent bad breath, cavities, toothaches, and mouth sores.  Frankincense oil is also great for digestion, as it helps speed up secretion of gastric juices, and stimulates peristaltic motion that allows food to move through the intestines properly. (1)

A study from University of Leicester reported that compound AKBA, found in Frankincense, has the ability to target cancer cells in late stage ovarian cancer patients.  The study’s authors were able to show its effectiveness at killing cancer cells.  They believe that this compound could have potential for treating brain, breast, colon, pancreatic, prostate, and stomach cancers. (2)

Another study examined the impact of Frankincense oil on bladder cancer.  The study reported that the oil was able to distinguish normal bladder cells from cancerous ones and induce bladder cancer cell death! (3)

If you do not have Frankincense oil in your home, it is a worthy investment.  Essential oils often last for a long time, depending on how frequently they are used.  Frankincense oil is one of the higher priced oils, but a great investment in your long-term health.
