In my dreams my laundry does itself. Talk about a perfect world. Does your dirty clothing have a tendency to sit in the hamper for days, weeks, even months?
Homemade Laundry Detergent
I understand where you’re coming from. That laundromat a block away is a long block away in the Winter; Summer is too short to spend waiting on a dry cycle. Or maybe those sweatpants will cram into the hamper just fine.
You’ll be the first to know when I’ve invented self cleaning clothing. In the meantime, I’ve got something just as magical: a homemade laundry detergent that will improve those “laundry days” forever, naturally.
What we use to clean our clothing can contribute to our overall health and well being. Commercial laundry detergents are overflowing with toxic chemicals; when we use these products, our skin is literally up against some seriously harmful material.
Make every load of laundry count by making your own detergent. It’s cheaper than using harmful chemicals. It’s also more convenient; it will be a year before you have to buy (or make) detergent again. All it takes is just four ingredients.
Baking soda and washing soda soften and sanitize your clothing. Tea tree oil, a staple in all of my homemade cleaning products, leaves your clothing smelling gorgeous. Put the rest of that bottle of tea tree oil to use by reading this article.
Castile soap is the Superhero ingredient that makes this homemade laundry detergent soapy and sudsy for a guaranteed clean. Did you know that castile soap can also clean your floors, carpets and pets? Check out this article to learn what castile soap can do for you and your home.
Save your skin and the planet by washing your wears in this homemade laundry detergent. Your skin and your wallet will thank you.
Homemade Laundry Detergent
16 cups baking soda
12 cups washing soda
8 cups liquid castile soap or grated castile or glycerin soap
3 tablespoons tea tree oil or lavender or lemon essential oil
In a large bowl combine baking soda, washing soda and liquid castile soap/soap flakes. Add essential oil and mix well.
Store in a large container.
How To Use It
Use 1∕8 cup of homemade laundry detergent per load. One batch will last a family of four a year. Use this homemade laundry detergent for a feel good clean. Or, maybe your mom will start doing your laundry again if you ask really, really nicely.
A girl can dream, right?
