I have never used cooking spray in my life and really hadn’t given it a second thought until Kelapo suggested that I try their Extra Virgin Coconut Oil Non-Stick Cooking Spray. Now I know what all the hubbub is about.
Kelapo Review and Giveaway
What’s the Product?
Extra Virgin Coconut Oil Non Stick Cooking Spray
Truthfully, I thought how am I going to review this product? I don’t typically use cooking spray and can’t see why someone wouldn’t just pore oil into a pan. Really. This is what ran through my head, but I was willing to give it a shot.
How I used it
It just so happens that at the same time I was sent the Kelapo cooking spray I was also sent several gluten free cake mixes to review so, I thought, why not try it out.
First, let me say that I love the fact that the cooking spray is made with coconut oil; the health benefits of coconut oil are amazing and, whether you use it in a cooking spray or scoop it out of a jar, we should all be using coconut oil as a part of a healthy diet. I am also impressed that it is the first soy-free cooking spray in the market; that is a big plus for me, especially with my concerns about GMOs in the food supply.
OK, now on to the review. I sprayed my loaf pan with the cooking spray, poured in the batter and baked. Simple enough. To my utter surprise and amazement I actually like the convenience of a cooking spray. And yes, it is a lot easier than slathering oil from a jar into the loaf pan. Actually, I think I have fallen in love with my Kelapo cooking spray, this product is fantastic. I have already used it for everything from muffins to cakes to cookies and I love it. The coconut oil is perfect for sweets leaving a nice lightly sweet crispy bottom and, of course, nothing sticks which is fantastic. Who knew a cooking spray could be such an asset in the kitchen.
Two big thumbs up for Kelapo Cooking Spray from this Mom.
How does Mother Earth feel about this product?
Mother Earth loves the fact that Kelapo uses organic coconut oil as well as no soy, we are all concerned about the GMO problem so knowing that there is no soy is comforting. Of course Mother Earth would be a bit happier if there were more recycling programs for aerosol cans but all in due time. For those of you concerned about using aerosol spray cans things have changed over the years and luckily in the 90’s a few new laws came about:
“Aerosol spray cans are not as bad as they used to be. In the past they often used CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) as a propellant, which would eventually be released into the atmosphere and contribute to ozone depletion. However, since the EPA’s actions to limit the uses of CFC in the 1990’s, less-harmful alternative propellants have been introduced instead.”
Mother Earth is happy with Kelapo but is always pushing for more.
Is it a Healthy Product?
They had me at organic coconut oil….. Yes, healthy for sure.
How does this product impact my wallet?
$7.29 per can is a bit pricey but to be honest I am using very little each time and this can seems to be lasting a lot longer than I expected. And, for the convenience, I think it’s worth splurging a bit.
Would I recommend this product to a friend?
4 1/2 stars. Fantastic product from a great company; I am look forward to continuing using this product.
