Easy 2-Ingredient Raw Manuka Honey and Turmeric Bombs Recipe

The Health Benefits of Turmeric

When it comes to tried and true superfoods, turmeric may well be the most effective and science-backed nutritional supplement in the world. The golden-yellow spice contains an especially powerful ingredient called curcumin and is known most for its anti-inflammatory benefits. For people who suffer from arthritic pain, turmeric is very desirable.[1]

Studies have even proven turmeric to be as effective as some anti-inflammatory drugs, sometimes more. In a 2009 study published in Alternative Medicine Review, researchers observed the effects of turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties (i.e., curcumin).[4]

“Based on early cell culture and animal research, clinical trials indicate curcumin may have potential as a therapeutic agent in diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, arthritis, and chronic anterior uveitis, as well as certain types of cancer.”

In a 2016 study published in Frontiers of Microbiology, authors wrote: “Medicinal honey research is undergoing a substantial renaissance,” stating that therapeutic manuka honey is “no longer so alternative.”[5]

There’s a good reason for this, too. Another study from 2011 in the Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine studied the antimicrobial and antibacterial properties that give raw manuka honey its preventative and healing properties. In reference to manuka honey, scientists were amazed by its effectiveness in comparison to other types of honey.[6]

“[Manuka honey] displays significant antibacterial effects even when the [enzymatic] hydrogen peroxide activity is blocked. Its mechanism may be related to the low pH level of honey and its high sugar content (high osmolarity) that is enough to hinder the growth of microbes.”

What You Need

  • Baking sheet and parchment paper (or baking mat)
  • Small mixing bowl
  • 1/3 cup ground turmeric
  • 3 tablespoons raw manuka honey
  • Optional: If you don’t like honey or cannot eat it, softened coconut oil also works

The Fun Part

  1. Mix all the ingredients in bowl until mixture has a peanut-butter-like consistency
  2. Roll into bite-sized pieces (use a tablespoon to help if desired)
  3. Place each raw manuka honey and turmeric bomb on the lined baking sheet
  4. Freeze raw manuka honey and turmeric bombs for at least 2 hours
  5. Transfer raw manuka honey and turmeric bombs into a container
  6. Snack as needed – remember to store them in a freezer!
