Swine Flu Vaccine - A Look at the Pros and Cons

With the swine flu scare, many people are choosing to get the swine flu vaccine for them and their children. After all, no one wants to get this flu, but is the flu vaccine really the right choice? Should you go with holistic health options or choose to get this vaccine to keep you and your family protected? This is a tough choice that you're going to have to make. To make it a bit easier for you to make an informed choice, here is a look at the pros and cons of flu vaccine for the swine flu. Take a careful look at both sides and make the best choice for you and your family.

The Pros of the Swine Flu Vaccine

Here are a few of the pros of getting the swine flu vaccine.

- Pro #1 - The CDC Claims it Cuts Your Risk - According to the CDC, getting this vaccine can cut your risk of getting the swine flu.

- Pro #2 - Recommended for Those with High Risks - Those who have a high risk of getting swine flu are recommended to get this flu vaccine, although it is not mandatory. It may be a good choice for those from age 6 months to 25 and the elderly to get the vaccine, since they have the highest risk.

- Pro #3 - A Milder Form of Swine Flu - Although the swine flu vaccine can't 100% prevent you getting H1N1, if you actually do get it, in most cases you will get a milder form of the flu than those who haven't been vaccinated.

The Cons of the Swine Flu Vaccine

There are also some cons of the flu vaccine for swine flu that should be taken into consideration as well. Here is a look at the cons you need to know.

- Con #1 - Some Instances of the Swine Flu Vaccine Contains Thimerosal - Thimerosal is supposed to be included in the flu vaccine given for swine flu this fall. This is an antibacterial additive that includes mercury, which is a neurotoxin. Pregnant women and children should especially avoid mercury and mercury is harmful to the body.

- Con #2 - It May Not Even Work - Even the swine flu can change and adapt. When you get the flu vaccine, you may not be getting the exact strain and may still end up getting the swine flu anyway.

- Con #3 - Not Enough Evidence - The swine flu vaccine has been developed very quickly because of the problem with swine flu across the world. The problem is, there is not a lot of evidence and information out there. The FDA hasn't completed tests and the clinical studies on these vaccines are ongoing, which means all the evidence may not be in yet. You may not want to subject to yourself to a vaccine before all the evidence and information is available.

There are definitely both pros and cons flu vaccine has to offer. Making a choice is difficult. You don't want you and your family to suffer from the swine flu, yet you don't want to take a swine flu vaccine that is dangerous to your health either. The best way to make the decision is to weigh the pros and cons and make a decision that you are comfortable with.

Let's Talk Swine Flu

October 04, 2009

Hi, and welcome to the Healthy-Holistic-Living.com newsletter. Please be sure to check out my new web site Home Remedies and Natural Cures.com

If you want a good debate, let's talk Swine Flu. Should you vaccinate, or should you not? That is the big question of the day.

So, let's take a look at the pros and cons of getting vaccinated. This is my opinion and it's based on factual information you can find with any Google search. This is a subject that is at the forefront of concern in our communities and schools. You should make every effort to be well informed before you allow someone you love to be vaccinated. Especially a child!

The main vaccination recommendations start with children, caretakers of children, college kids, pregnant women and people with other underlying health conditions such as low immune systems, respiratory system problems or asthma. This is a large percentage of populations in any country. So that poses a health alert all over the world.

If you are the parent of a child, you are most likely being overwhelmed with fear from "very public announcements" from our media about how your child is directly at risk and how the schools are going to be offering vaccinations to the kids. You probably are terrified and wondering whether or not to allow it.

The news from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has predicted that the Swine Flu (or H1N1 virus) will become a very large epidemic this year and will kill many people, if not controlled.

According to the CDC, on a norm, 200,000 people are hospitalized with the Flu every year and out of that, 36,000 a year die. And that is the standard Flu that we have vaccinations for. So naturally with all the media hype, we are going to be scared into getting vaccinations for a Flu that we don't have a proven vaccine for yet! "Proven" would be the key word as most vaccines have a long term lab testing regime before it is released to the public.

Pro: If you are on the Government list of "most endangered" for the deadly Swine Flu, you may get vaccinated by the time Flu season starts and it may keep you safe.

Con: You may be at risk for other health conditions later on down the road and the vaccine "may not work" due to lack of extensive testing before it is released to the public at large.

Some facts for you to considerÂ… Did you know that the vaccine that is being promoted to you and your loved ones only has a testing factor of about 2 months on a human being?

According to STLToday.com the first of the 200 volunteers at St. Louis University were given the new vaccine on 8/7/09 as a part of the National clinical trials for the new vaccine. If all goes well we should see the new vaccine available for all by mid October.

This is not nearly enough time to see if the effects are good or bad. And if anyone who lived through the 1976 Swine Flu epidemic remembers, many people died after receiving a vaccine that was proven and many lived with long term health problems such as upper respiratory breathing problems and spinal problems due to the ingredients used to make the vaccine. There were many lawsuits after that epidemic and today's administration has protected themselves from that this time. Doesn't that raise a hair or two on the back of your neck?

Fact: Toxic adjuvants such as; Thimerosal (a preservative and form of Mercury that is 50 times more dangerous) is a key ingredient in a large number of the Flu Shots. Types of toxins like this one, at high enough doses, can cause long-term immune, sensory, neurological, motor, and behavioral dysfunctions. If you are going to get the swine flu vaccine make sure to ask your doctor for the vaccine without the thimerosal.

Also associated with mercury poisoning are autism, attention deficit disorder, multiple sclerosis, and speech and language deficiencies. The Institute of Medicine has warned that infants, children, and pregnant women should not be injected with thimerosal, yet the majority of flu shots contain 25 micrograms of it! Would you knowingly shoot your child full of toxins?

Pro: Yes, in 1976 we did save some folks from dying. And an epidemic was controlled. Except was there really even an epidemic? Or was it just media hysteria that led one to believe it was an epidemic? The Times (http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1894129,00.html) recently ran an article that states the 1976 'epidemic' was a relatively benign outbreak. I guess that's the good news, we might all just be jumping the gun again. Then again, maybe we will save an all out epidemic across the world with this new unproven vaccine that is soon to be released. Time will tell.

Con:I guess for me, that's not enough to overcome the dangers of the potential long term effects that now will be "unprotected" for long term help. The reality is, the vaccine will not have the extensive testing it should have before being released to the public. That is what is frightening.

Something to seriously consider before you hand over your baby's arm. Are you willing to take that chance? I know I'm not!
