Swine Flu Vaccine - A Look at the Pros and Cons
The Pros of the Swine Flu Vaccine Here are a few of the pros of getting the swine flu vaccine. - Pro #1 - The CDC Claims it Cuts Your Risk - According to the CDC, getting this vaccine can cut your risk of getting the swine flu. - Pro #2 - Recommended for Those with High Risks - Those who have a high risk of getting swine flu are recommended to get this flu vaccine, although it is not mandatory. It may be a good choice for those from age 6 months to 25 and the elderly to get the vaccine, since they have the highest risk. - Pro #3 - A Milder Form of Swine Flu - Although the swine flu vaccine can't 100% prevent you getting H1N1, if you actually do get it, in most cases you will get a milder form of the flu than those who haven't been vaccinated. The Cons of the Swine Flu Vaccine There are also some cons of the flu vaccine for swine flu that should be taken into consideration as well. Here is a look at the cons you need to know. - Con #1 - Some Instances of the Swine Flu Vaccine Contains Thimerosal - Thimerosal is supposed to be included in the flu vaccine given for swine flu this fall. This is an antibacterial additive that includes mercury, which is a neurotoxin. Pregnant women and children should especially avoid mercury and mercury is harmful to the body. - Con #2 - It May Not Even Work - Even the swine flu can change and adapt. When you get the flu vaccine, you may not be getting the exact strain and may still end up getting the swine flu anyway. - Con #3 - Not Enough Evidence - The swine flu vaccine has been developed very quickly because of the problem with swine flu across the world. The problem is, there is not a lot of evidence and information out there. The FDA hasn't completed tests and the clinical studies on these vaccines are ongoing, which means all the evidence may not be in yet. You may not want to subject to yourself to a vaccine before all the evidence and information is available. There are definitely both pros and cons flu vaccine has to offer. Making a choice is difficult. You don't want you and your family to suffer from the swine flu, yet you don't want to take a swine flu vaccine that is dangerous to your health either. The best way to make the decision is to weigh the pros and cons and make a decision that you are comfortable with.
