Tai Chi
Tai chi is an absolutely wonderful option for someone with physical challenges. Its fluid and gentle movements allow you to develop your muscles and strengthen your physical self without putting too much strain on your overall body. Not to mention the meditative benefits. Definition:- Tai chi: Pronounced "tie chee", this is an ancient Chinese discipline that integrates mind, body, and spirit. Practitioners use meditation and deep breathing as they move through a series of continuous exercises, called "forms," which resemble slow-moving ballet.
My Experience: I tried Tai Chi as a part of trying to add as many healthy habits into my daily routine as possible and in my effort to keep my body moving. I didnt go to any instructor or practitioner; I just checked a book out of the library. Sometimes that is the best you can do. Not to mention that when you are sick you do not have the energy to run around everyday seeing doctors or practitioners. It is kind of the difficult side of being sick, you need to do things to help yourself, but you are too tired and sick to do them. Using the book I did the movements that I could do given my illness. I often sat in a chair instead of standing to perform the movements. I really enjoyed Tai chi , but I just simply didnt have the stamina to do it as regularly as I needed to, although I kept coming back to it. This technique is a very soothing form of fluid movement that relaxes you at the same time that you are stretching and strengthening your body. It is also somewhat meditative.
Would I do it again? Certainly, but I would prefer to have an instructor to help guide and motivate me. ![]()
