terminated after work injury

I was injured on the job in 2006, carried out of the plant in an ambulance. I went through the workman's compensation system, continuing trying to work and go to physical therapy.
After 4 months the workman's compensation doctor took me off work and 5 months later, I was given pretty severe permanent work restrictions. I gave these to my employer and was terminated.
They couldn't accommodate my restrictions. I was told that my long term disability had been denied, and they back dated my termination date so that I lost my insurance. I live in constant pain, fatigue, migraines and experience deep depression.
I was healthy and vibrant before this injury, worked 7 days a week, a lot of 12 hour shifts, came home did my housework, and worked out. Now I can do nothing at all. I try to do things like I used to but just can't.
I applied for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and since I have been sent to some rude and insulting doctors and a very rude psychologist who acted as if I were a criminal trying to steal something just because I applied for SSDI.
I haven't had an income in over a year, so believe me if I could work I would. This is the last thing I wanted to do- apply for SSDI. I kept thinking I would get better, but instead, I keep getting worse. Hopefully I will get Social Security Disability Benefits and soon. I have a lawyer that I got through contacting The Disability Digest.
I don't think the people at Social Security realize how helpless and hopeless you feel having to go to them.
