5 Ways That Empaths Love Differently
To love and be loved in return is something that many might consider the greatest conquest our lives have to offer. The reward is so great that we risk vulnerability and heartbreak just to chance that we’ll find that special someone who will fill our cup and make us feel like sunshine. When we do find them, we want to hold on and never let them go.
Every person is unique, and so every person’s experience with love will be as well. There is one type of person, however, that may just change the game of love entirely.
What Is An Empath?
Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. When someone has a strong sense of empathy, we call that person an empath.
At times, an empath’s knowledge of other people’s feelings can seem uncanny. When an empath enters into a relationship of love, the potential for closeness between partners grows exponentially. If you find yourself in love with an empath, you might notice yourself forming a deeper connection with them than you ever thought possible.
What is it about loving an empathetic person that makes such a difference? The magic is in the way they love you. Here are 5 things you will likely encounter in a relationship with a highly empathetic person.
#1. They’ll know how you feel, even if you don’t say it.
One of the greatest things people struggle with when braving a romantic relationship is learning to share their feelings with their partner. Especially if our feelings are unpleasant, being open with our emotions makes us feel vulnerable and uncomfortable. Whether we’ve been hurt before or it is our first time daring to love, opening up our hearts can be frightening.
With an empath as your partner, you never have to worry about your feelings being mistreated. In fact, they will likely have an idea of what you feel before you have to tell them. When an empath reads your emotions, they treat them with the utmost care. You have nothing to fear when you approach an empath with the contents of your heart. They will care for it as if it was their own.
#2. When they are hurting, they won’t lash out.
Sometimes relationships get hard to navigate when one partner is hurting emotionally. It is hard to look too closely at our own pain. Often it can be easier to project or blame someone else for what is wrong inside our hearts, rather than work through it ourselves. Because of this, they may strike out at those closest to them when they are hurting, and that can be damaging to the relationship and the trust between partners.
This is never something you will need to worry about with an empath. They stay conscious of your feelings even when they are suffering. If they are in pain, the last thing they would ever want is for you to feel anything like they do. They may become quiet or distant when they are hurting, but that is only to keep from burdening you with their troubles. Give them time and understanding, and they will open up to you when they are ready.
#3. They won’t smother you with their love.
Being in a relationship with someone who is so in tune with your emotions might seem like it would get overwhelming. You might worry about being too exposed, or fear your partner getting over-involved in your personal space. That likely won’t be the reality, however.
Empaths are sensitive to the emotions of everyone around them, not only those they are very close to. They do a lot of feeling for strangers and for the world, and that can get exhausting for them. They’ll often need time to be alone and recharge, giving you all the time you need to breathe. They’ll be happy just knowing you can maintain whatever makes you independently happy.
#4. They will always put you first.
An empath will be one of the most selfless people you will ever meet. Because of how sensitive they are to other people’s experiences, they will always do everything in their power to positively impact those experiences. If they love you, they’ll want to make you the happiest person in the world. You may have to be watchful to make sure they don’t give too much of themselves, but you will never have to worry about asking too much of an empath. Be open about your needs and they will be more than receptive.
#5. They’ll never do anything to hurt you.
Countless people make promises like this to each other when they enter into relationships. Nobody ever thinks they’ll hurt the person they love at the beginning, but unfortunately, heartbreak seems to reign over so many attempts at love.
Empaths are people that make mistakes the same as anyone else, but an empath is different in one key way. They will never cheat, lie, treat you unfairly, or take any action intentionally that they know could cause you pain. In fact, they will go to extensive lengths to avoid actions that even resemble it. You can always trust an empath to hold your best interests in their hearts.
Have you ever dated an empath? Are you an empath yourself? Share your thoughts and experiences with us, we’d love to hear from you.
