69-Year-Old Woman Beats Cancers with Raw Foods and Fitness

When 69-year-old Pat Reeves of Britain was diagnosed with brain cancer in the 1980s, she was told by medical professionals that her situation was fatal. Still, she didn’t want to take medications or participate in treatments to treat her cancer. Instead, she chose self-treatment saying, “I have kept myself alive by being fit.  People are in too much of a rush to take medicine and drugs when we can mend ourselves.”(1)

She used to run for health, but says she started lifting weights in light of her diagnosis. “I took up bodybuilding because I realised running was only working me from the waist down,” she says.(1)

Unfortunately, just one year after her brain cancer diagnosis, she was told she had osteosarcoma (also known as osteogenic sarcoma), a cancer that starts in the bones. While it typically impacts long bones such as the thigh and shin, tumors may also develop in other bones such as the jaw and pelvis.(2)

Turning to raw foods to heal cancer

At this point, while most people might now decide to go the way of traditional medicine, Reeves remained determined to forgo any such treatment. She continued to engage in the world of fitness for years; in March 2014, she broke the world deadlift record at the British Drug Free Power-lifting Association (BDFPA) National event. But this time around, she made a significant change that put her on an even healthier path.

She began eating raw foods.

Reeves is going strong, decades after her “fatal” diagnosis from the past. She still powerlifts and enjoys raw foods, and has since become a nutritional therapist involved with numerous health festivals and lectures.

“Being supported using a plant-based regime for around forty-seven years – for the last twenty of those mainly consuming living foods,” she says, “has totally transformed my health, radically changing orthodox predicted outcome, enabling me to defeat an intractable cancer situation.”(3)

Expert says “Yes,” cancer can be reversed

Health and wellness advocate and author Kathy Freston spoke with T. Colin Campbell, Professor Emeritus of Cornell University and author of The China Study, asking him, “Are you saying that if one changes their diet from animal based protein to plant-based protein that the disease process of cancer can be halted and reversed?” As Reeves can attest to, his answer was yes. “Yes, this is what our experimental research shows,” Campbell says. “I also have become aware of many anecdotal claims by people who have said that their switch to a plant-based diet stopped, even reversed . . . their disease.”(4)

Sadly, not everyone is on board with the notion that making exercise and dietary changes in lieu of cancer treatments is the way to go.

Perhaps that’s best outlined in Freston’s other question to Campbell when she asked him if changing from a poor diet to a healthier one is a cure for cancer. “Is that the case?” she asked him.

“Yes,” he says. “The problem in this area of medicine is that traditional doctors are so focused on the use of targeted therapies (chemo, surgery, radiation) that they refuse to even acknowledge the use of therapies like nutrition and are loathe to even want to do proper research in this area. So, in spite of the considerable evidence–theoretical and practical–to support a beneficial nutritional effect, every effort will be made to discredit it. It’s a self-serving motive.”(4)
