I wouldn’t be surprised if most of you are trying to cut down on your salt intake. For the most part, we are told of the negative effects salt can have on our health, however there is another side to the sea salt story!

Sea salt in particular is actually capable of doing a lot of good for our health. Cutting down on salt is always wise if you are ingesting more than the prescribed amount (maximum 1500-2000 mgs per day) but cutting it out of your diet entirely isn’t a good plan! Sea salt is different from many common table salts (iodized salts) because it’s extracted from the ocean, isn’t processed, and contains a variety of minerals!

1. Great Source of Vitamins

Sea salt contains many different minerals that are essential to your health, such as potassium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, calcium, iodine, and manganese. Sea salt also has a high vitamin C and magnesium content, which can be great for your immune system.

2. Helps Prevent Osteoporosis

When you eat salt, around 20% of it is stored in your bones. When your body is low on salt, it will draw the excess salt from your bones, which can lead to osteoporosis, so it is important to have just enough salt for both your body and bones. It is important to remember that your body also needs a lot of water at all times. When you eat salt, you should also drink water because your body cannot utilize the salt without it.

3. Helps to Cleanse the Body

Sea salt can help clean your digestive tract as well as rid the body of various toxins. It is an effective antiseptic substance and when mixed with water can also be used topically. As well, sea salt water can help the symptoms of a sore throat when gargled or sipped in very small quantities. 

4. Aids in Normalizing Heartbeat

Incorporating sea salt into your diet aids in normalizing your heartbeat and keeping your blood pressure at a safe level. Your cholesterol can also be affected positively by sea salt, when consumed in moderation. Taking care of your heart, blood pressure and cholesterol will help you strengthen your cardiovascular system, and assist in your work out efforts!

By adding sea salt and water mixtures to your diet, you can alkalize your body. This means that the sea salt and water combination will flush out the extra acid content in your body.

Sea salt really does have an amazing skill set! It’s important to remember that this list is referring specifically to sea salt and not other iodized salts! Iodized salts are stripped of many of the amazing minerals that sea salt has, so get rid of that simple table salt and buy some sea salt!

I’d also like to remind you to always drink water! No matter what is in your diet, it is essential to drink water throughout the day, especially if you want sea salt to be as effective as possible.
