In Your Bath, This Is What Happens To Toxins, Mucus, And Inflammation
Detox baths are all the rage right now! With all the toxins we are exposed to every single day, it is important to develop a routine to cleanse your body. Toxins can be found everywhere: in the food we eat, in the water, we drink, in the medication we take, even in the air we breathe. The list of toxins that can potentially hurt our bodies is practically endless.
Why Take a Detox Bath?
Look at it this way, a lot of people start their day with a hot shower. The water is polluted with impurities, the shampoo, and soap you are using is full of chemicals, the toothpaste contains fluoride. After your shower, you might have breakfast, which, most likely, was treated with pesticides or even worse, was genetically modified.
So there it is, you have not even left the comfort of your home and have been exposed to many toxins already. This is why I want to share with you my secret to rid my body of those harmful, and potentially damaging toxins.
My personal favorite detoxifying remedy is a ginger bath! This detox bath not only boosts your health and prevents disease, but also strengthens your immune system. It is no secret that ginger is tightly packed with excellent health benefits such as antioxidant abilities, anti-mucus properties, and anti-inflammatory effects. Ginger is an effective remedy for something as simple as a preventing cold or flu on a daily basis to something as serious as protecting against colorectal and ovarian cancer.
I have never been a shower type. To be frank with you, I hate when water touches my eyes. But I do love my baths! Hot water infused with lavender or rosemary oil is wonderful after a long day of work. Since my son is only seven months old, my bath time has been almost nonexistent. So, when I do get a chance to soak, I make sure the water is packed with the most beneficial ingredients for my body. Last week I stumbled upon this ginger bath recipe and loved it!
Oh, what a night it was! Once my son was in his crib for the night (yes, I am one lucky mom, my son sleeps through the entire night without interruptions) I jumped at the chance to take a ginger bath since I have been congested for the past couple of days. And all I can say is … wow! I have not felt this hot and sweaty in a very long time! The first 5 minutes I was skeptical, but then it hit me. All my aches and sinus problems seemed to disappear as I was melting away. I could even feel my pulse in my toes!

We all know that sweating is one of the most reliable ways to rid our bodies of those harmful toxins, however, not everyone has access to a sauna or steam rooms. This simple, home recipe will give you an opportunity to sweat out your body of nasty toxins.
Easy Detox Ginger Bath Recipe
- ½ a cup of fresh grated ginger or 1 teaspoon of ginger powder
- bathtub filled with bearably hot water
- 1 cup of baking soda (this will neutralize the chemicals in your tap water such as chlorine and boost mineral absorption)
- 20-30 minutes of your time
So this is pretty straight forward.
- Fill your tub with bearably hot water.
- Add ginger and baking soda.
- Soak for approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
Note: You might feel dizzy, so be cautious as you are rising out of the tub. Expect to sweat for at least an hour after your bath, so I would perform this bath at night when you don’t have to worry about going out. Because this bath detoxifies your body through sweat, do not forget to stay hydrated! Remember that your pores are open and are more prone to absorb chemicals, so do not use any harsh drugstore soaps or shampoos after your bath.

This recipe works miracles for simple cold and flu symptoms. It relieves inflammation, chest and nasal congestion. You can keep it in your fridge for up to 48 hours.

- Honey to taste (optional)

Ginger has made its way into the literature of the ancient Romans and Greeks. It is mentioned as a mythical poison antidote called Mithridate, which demand was skyrocketing during the Renaissance. Even presently, ginger has made its mark in our everyday life, from cooking to bathing. I believe that this zesty root has to be part of a daily dietary route in every family. What do you think?
