Snack time is without a doubt the hardest part of following a healthy eating plan. This is caused by the constant rotation of the same 3 or 4 healthy snacks you “allow” yourself.
This winter we’re changing up the way we eat by throwing in a few new snack items throughout our daily eating regiment. There are many alternatives for getting your fix with regards to snacking.
How to Deal with the Cravings
I miss eating a lot of different things, but I would have to say chips are the one snack I long for the most. Whether it’s potato chips, tortilla chips, or any other kind of salty chip.
My love for chips has resulted in a lack of self-control. That being said chips are not allowed in or around the house, at least for the time being. Eating well doesn’t have to be a hassle; there are ways to get that crunch with other healthy foods.
However, that doesn’t mean I can’t make a healthy alternative for my cravings. Cravings may not go away, but supplementing your favourite fatty snacks with a healthy choice is a good way to feel good.
You don’t ever have to give up your choice of snack just use recipes like the baked zucchini chips to find ways around eating extra calories.
Baked Zucchini Chips Are the Solution!
Thinly sliced zucchini baked at a low temperature turns into a crispy, yet healthy chip.
The use of any kind of zucchini will produce more or less the same result. If I could recommend one I would say using a larger zucchini squash will produce better chips.
This is a result of the zucchini chips shrinking when baked; if you use a large grandma’s sized zucchini you will produce better results. They are also slightly dryer than baby zucchini, so there is less moisture released.
The use of a mandolin slicer will ensure that the zucchini slices are exactly the same, which will help avoid any lack in crunch.
