Essential oils have so many benefits for our bodies and for our minds. Relaxing, soothing, or just plain good-smelling, any of these EO combos will have your hair looking and smelling great. Plus, a lot of the scents have the ability to relax and calm – less tangled hair for a less tangled mind.
The mixes of oils used here aren’t just essential oils, they’re essential for your hair-care arsenal. Of course they’ll have your hair smelling wonderful, but many of them have sealing and/ or moisturizing properties. Your hair will be silky and healthy with these tools in your kit.
You’ve probably got some of these oils on hand already. If you did, just rub your hand through your hair and you’re done. Some of these oils can be expensive, so make whichever mix best suits your mood and your needs.
If you only want to get one essential oil, I really like Vanilla. It smells wonderful and I’m told it works wonders for your hair. The price is right, and so’s the smell. It is not an overpowering, offensive smell, just nice and light, warm and floral. I like it because it smells like cake.
Vanilla Lavender Oil
Most people correlate an overly flowery scent to maturity or seniority. Old age, basically. You never want to overdo fragrant oils because you’re likely to give yourself a migraine. Follow this recipe to get a light floral mix of lavender and vanilla.
- 10 drops of vanilla oil
- 15 drops lavender essential oil
- 2 ounces jojoba oil
Lavender is calming and has a light, flowery fragrance. Vanilla is soothing and warm. Jojoba oil (pronounced ho-ho-ba) comes from a plant that grows in the Southwestern States. Jojoba may be odorless, but it has everything strong hair needs: vitamin E, B-complex, copper, zinc, selenium, iodine, and chromium.
Vanilla Mint Oil
The vanilla in this mix balances the stronger scent of peppermint. If you apply directly to your scalp it will tingle, so those with sensitive skin be warned.
- 15 drops vanilla oil
- 10 drops peppermint essential oil
- 2 oz jojoba oil
Peppermint is cooling and calming, and has microbial properties, so it will cleanse as well as cool. Mixed with vanilla and jojoba, this potent oil becomes a perfect pair for strong, silky hair.
Vanilla Orange Oil
Fresh cut oranges remind me of breakfast, which puts me in the mindset of wakefulness. The rejuvenation and refreshment experienced from this scent will be experienced by your hair as well, as it will shine to its potential.
- 10 drops Orange oil
- 10 drops vanilla oil
- 2 ounces jojoba oil
Rose + Jasmine Moisturizing Spray
If you’d prefer a spray to an oil, this one’s for you! Rose water has a bunch of benefits for hair, from moisturizing and conditioning, to treating heat-damaged or dry/ frizzy hair. Jasmine oil is an aromatherapeutic that will soothe your scalp and your mind.
- 4 oz rose water
- 10-20 drops jasmine oil
- 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin
NOTE: Shake well before each use and store in the refrigerator.
If you want to be out in the sun but don’t want your hair drying up, give these oil treatments a try. They smell great and will have your hair feeling and looking stronger and silkier than before.
