Five Questions To Ask Yourself To Know You’re In A Healthy Relationship
Dating is a difficult task for many people. Knowing the difference between someone that truly cares and someone that does not actually want to commit to a relationship can seem like an impossible hurdle. Because of this, there are people who assume that they’ll never meet the right person or will simply be forever alone. This, of course, is not true. Everyone has a person out there for them.
Finding that special someone who is “right” for you is a wonderfully gratifying experience that everyone deserves to have. But the difficulty in finding that specific person who is genuine and matches you perfectly discourages many. There is also the problem where people will find someone who they think is perfect, only to find out that they’re actually toxic, making many feel trapped in horrible relationships. We do not want that to happen to you.
Below we have compiled a comprehensive list that will help you as a reader know whether or not the person that you are seeing is actually ready to commit. Ask yourself if the person you are seeing consistently does these things.
5 Things To Ask Yourself When You’re In A Relationship
#1. Do They Make You Feel Happy?
When you’re dating someone, the most important thing is to make sure that you’re happy with them. Sure, you may go through some rough times, but in the end, you should be making each other happy. Happiness can come from many things in a relationship such as gift giving and doing other things for each other. But you should also be consistently making one another happy by just being with each other.
#2. Do They Treat You Like You Are Their Equal?
It’s an unfortunate thing that many people in relationships do not consider their significant other to be an equal. This means that they look down on their partner, condescend them or simply don’t believe that they deserve the same quality things as them. Always make sure that the person you are seeing treats you as an equal.
#3. Are They Making You Laugh?
This goes along with someone making you happy. Laughter is key in a healthy relationship. If you’re with someone that doesn’t make you smile and laugh, what’s the point of being with them? Marilyn Monroe once famously said, “If you can make a woman laugh, you can make her do anything.” This, of course, applies to everyone and not just women. If you are in a relationship where you two are able to laugh at each other’s jokes, you’re going to be able to go far.
#4. Are They Messaging You First?
Many people find themselves in relationships where they feel like they are the only one making any effort to be with their partner. It can be a little disheartening for someone if they are always initiating a conversation first. If you’re dating someone, check to see if they are starting your daily conversations. Whether that’s through text, phone calls or in person, check to see if they are showing an effort.
#5. Do They Show A Genuine Interest In Your Life?
This goes along with the previous point and the point on seeing each other as equals. A person may message you first by sending a good morning text, but people can still feel like the person that they are with doesn’t actually care about the things that they have to say. This can be because the person does not actually value what is happening in their partner’s life. Does your partner ask you how your day was? Do they remember the things that you told them yesterday? It’s important to know whether or not they actually care about what you have to say. If they can’t remember the names of your coworkers when you tell them your work stories, maybe they aren’t as invested as they should be.
These questions are all important things to ask yourself when you are dating someone. It’s not the end of the world if the answer to every one of these questions wasn’t “Yes.” But it might be time to start working on growing your relationship with your partner based on these qualities. Remember that nobody is perfect and that we all have room to grow.
