3-Ingredient Fruit-Infused Water Recipes for Fat Burning, Headaches and Heartburn

HHL_july11_07Now the summer months are in full swing, being sure to keep hydrated is really important. Sure, water is great, but you can really ramp up the benefits of plain old water by infusing it with fruit. Not only does this give delicious, natural flavor to your drink, but you can reap all the health benefits, burning fat, aiding digestion, and even topping up immune system defense.

Not only does this give a delicious, natural flavor to your drink, but you can reap all the health benefits locked in the fruits themselves helping you burn fat, aid digestion, and even top up immune system defense!

Here are 4 easy to make recipes, that you’ll be sipping all Summer long. I like to make them in the evenings and keep them in the fridge overnight to drink first thing when I wake up, which gives them sufficient time to infuse. You can play around with the amount of fruit that you use for each, it’s really down to taste:

Green Tea with Lime and Mint

This recipe will burn fat, aid digestion, and soothe headaches.

Ingredients:

  • Green tea, one tea bag steeped (you can use loose-leaf if you’d prefer). You can drink this one warm or cool.
  • Mint, 3-5 fresh leaves
  • Lime, sliced and squeezed to release the juice

Why does it work?

Green Tea: The antioxidant content in green tea is huge thanks to the polyphenols that release when you steep the tea.

Lime: Lime juice helps to stimulate the digestive tract, which improves the way your body digests food. The citric acid present in the fruit aids the function of enzymes in the body, another vital part of the digestive process.

Mint: This adds a wonderfully refreshing flavor to the water, making it the perfect addition to this drink. Mint also helps increase bile secretion in the body, which breaks down dietary fats in the small intestine. On top of this, the scent of mint actually helps your body to regulate blood flow and opens the sinuses to allow more oxygen into the bloodstream, helping to soothe headaches.

Refreshing Fruity Water

This water infusion recipe is perfect for blood sugar support and digestion.

Ingredients:

  • Cucumber, about ⅓ of a cucumber, thinly sliced
  • Strawberry, 3-4, sliced
  • Kiwi, 1 peeled and sliced.

Why does it work?

Cucumber: Cucumber contains the organic compound citrulline, an amino acid that helps the liver and kidneys filter and get rid of ammonia which is quite damaging to our cells. They also contain a hormone that the pancreas uses to produce insulin, lowering blood sugar levels.

Strawberries: Studies have shown that these berries can actually decrease the blood sugar levels, post-meal. This is most likely down to their antioxidant content which gives them their red color.

Another study also found that beneficial plant chemicals present in strawberries, known as ellagic acid, helps decrease blood sugar levels.

Kiwi: These are bursting with enzymes that your body uses to break down proteins during digestion. The fruit itself is really rich in fiber, great for digestion, so be sure to eat it after you’ve finished your drink!

Zesty Cucumber Water

A great recipe for hydration, digestion, and appetite control.

Ingredients:

  • Cucumber, about ⅓ of a cucumber, thinly sliced
  • Lemon, sliced and squeezed to release the juice
  • Lime, sliced and squeezed to release the juice

Why Does it Work?

Cucumber: Being 95% water, cucumbers are amazing for hydration. They also hold vitamins A and C, essential to help the body eliminate harmful toxins. The enzyme erepsin, also present in cucumbers, helps the body absorb protein.

Lemon and Lime: These zesty citruses are high in pectin fiber which helps you fight hunger cravings. Additionally, they can eliminate bloating thanks to their diuretic qualities, which will also keep your urinary tract healthy.

Citrus Blast Water

One of my favorite infused water recipes, this one not only tastes amazing, but supports immune defense, digestion, and heartburn.

Ingredients:

  • Lime, sliced and squeezed to release the juice
  • Orange, sliced and squeezed to release the juice
  • Lemon, sliced and squeezed to release the juice

Why Does it Work?

All of these ingredients contain vitamin C which is vital to the function of a strong immune system. The citric content of these ingredients also combats heartburn, making it a go-to if you struggle with this, the citric acid present in these fruits also helps improve enzyme function.
