9Spring is in the air! Smoothies are delicious all year round but people tend to have them much more frequently when it starts to warm up outside. This smoothie includes the warming properties of ginger, the energizing and fat burning properties of MCT oil, and refreshing properties of lime and mango.

Ginger is an amazing spice with healing properties. It’s well known for its abilities to relieve digestive problems, such as nausea, loss of appetite, motion sickness and pain.

Ginger can be consumed in a variety of ways: it can be eaten fresh, crushed into a powder, dried as a spice, used as an essential oil, pickled or blended into a delicious juice or smoothie.

MCT oil

MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides. They’re known for contributing to brain health and keeping your weight under control by making you feel full. MCTs are easy to digest and help boost your metabolism. Consuming MCT oil can balance your hormone levels, boost your mood and increase your energy levels.

MCTs contain medium-chain fatty acids with anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. In addition, MCTs contain antioxidant properties that keep your body healthy by warding off cell-damaging free radicals.

MCT and ginger are both thermogenic. Thermogenic substances raise your body’s heat, which in turn speeds up your metabolism and burns more fat.

Lime is a versatile citrus fruit that is often added to a myriad food and drink recipes for its flavour. But the health benefits of lime are also plenty. In addition to its scurvy-curing abilities, its acidic content helps relieve constipation.

Furthermore, adding lime to your diet can reduce your fever, prevent gout and gum problems, improve your digestion, and help prevent kidney problems and urinary disorders by removing toxic substances that get deposited in these areas.

Consuming lime is also good for your heart. Its high levels of soluble fibre help lower your risk of heart disease, heart attacks and stroke.

Mangoes are not just sweet and juicy, they are very beneficial to your health.

Mangoes contain an antioxidant called zeaxanthin, which helps prevent the onset of age-related macular degeneration. Mangoes are also rich in water content that allows for healthy digestion and preventing constipation.

Nutrients like vitamin K, which contributes to strong bones and vitamin A, which produces sebum that keeps your hair moisturized are also found in mangoes.

Ginger Lime Smoothie Recipe

Serves: 1
Prep time: 8 minutes
Cook time: none

  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 1/2 cups kale, de-stemmed
  • 2 inch piece of ginger, peeled
  • 2 tsp MCT Oil
  • 1/2 cup cucumber
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 1/2 cup frozen mango
  • 1/4 cup full fat canned coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • few cubes ice, optional

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. If your blender isn’t too strong, try first mixing the water and greens until it becomes liquid (this will prevent any chunkiness) and then add in the other ingredients and blend.
