It’s no secret these days that store bought ketchup is basically just red, corn syrup. But there’s something so nostalgic about it that it’s hard not to have around. After all, what’s a grilled cheese without a side of ketchup? It’s nothing at all, that’s what!!!

Homemade Ketchup is Healthier

When I decided it was time to say good-bye to our favorite red condiment, it was a sad day. I used up what I had left, guilt-free, because I knew I wouldn’t be buying it again. But in hind-sight, there was nothing to be sad about at all, because you can make your own delicious ketchup at home…right now! Seriously, a lot of people probably have all the ingredients kicking around to make it.

The very best part is, is it doesn’t contain any high-fructose corn syrup or GMO-tomatoes, and my daughter loves the stuff—she literally shovels it into her mouth before anything else on the plate (she’s only one, so give her a break.)

Because this homemade ketchup is naturally fermented, using basic whey, it contains healthy probiotics—so ‘night and day’ from store-bought ketchup it’s crazy.  You don’t have to add the whey, but then the ketchup won’t last as long in the fridge, or contain probiotics, so I highly recommend it.

After the homemade ketchup has fermented for a of couple days, feel free to pour it in to an old ketchup bottle so you can trick your children or spouse!

How to Make Homemade Fermented Ketchup

The perfect replacement for your Red-GMO-Corn-Syrup-Sauce (aka Ketchup). This healthy, probiotic, homemade, ketchup is sweetened with honey, and fragrant with spices. You’ll even be able to fool the kids.

  1. Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Tranfer to an air-tight jar and store at room temperature for 2 days. Leave at least 1 inch of space below the top of the jar.
  3. After 2 days, store in the fridge. This Ketchup will last for many weeks.
