New Study Says Motherhood is the Equivalent of Working 2.5 Full-Time Jobs

loading...

Being a mom is one of the toughest, yet most rewarding jobs in the world and you don’t even have to be a mother yourself to recognize that. It’s a job that trains you to have plenty of skills such as organization, negotiation, communication, multi-tasking, managing people, and plenty more to add to the list.

You’ve probably heard that being a mom is considered a full-time job, but we’re here to give you statistics that it is actually way beyond that! So much so that moms surpass even the busiest employee that clocks in 80 hours of work time per week.

Moms Clock in More Hours Than What a Full-Time Job Demands

mom-takes-care-of-kidThe juice company Welch’s surveyed 2,000 American moms to find out the real experiences and pressures they face on the job every day. What they found was that on average, a mom clocks in at 6:23 am and clocks out at 8:31 pm to perform her mom duties.

Not to mention, it is a Monday to Sunday job, meaning there’s no such thing as a day off. When you do the math, moms work approximately 14 hours a day, seven days a week, which adds up to about 98 hours per week. That’s two and a half more times than the average worker that puts in the regular 40 hours per week!

Also, take into account that a lot of mothers have to work through the night, whether it’s to breastfeed or to soothe a crying a baby or fend of monsters in the closet, which adds more working time to their already demanding schedule. That can easily add up to more than a hundred hours a week when you think about it.

Moms Get Minimal Breaks

tired momIf you’re a mom, you’re probably nodding your head in agreement that your job to raise your children is really that exhausting. More so, you can relate that moms get very little break time. In the same survey that was done, they found that moms get an average of only 1 hour and 7 minutes of “me” time per day.

What “me” time is for many moms isn’t even anything glamorous. Sometimes, it means that break time is for a nice shower, a nap, getting a haircut, or anything that you would consider to be more of a self-maintenance task than a self-rejuvenation period. After all, that’s all the time a mom has to do anything outside her busy job.

Activities You Can Do for “Me” Time

We all know it’s hard to find the time to take care of yourself when you’re busy being a mom for your little kiddos but don’t forget that you’ll function better when you get adequate rest for yourself.

If it helps, check out this study that confirms putting kids to bed early helps moms with their sanity. It may not be new information to you, but it’s a great reminder that if possible, having an earlier bedtime for your kids will do a lot for you too.

It’d be great if you also get more me time for yourself in addition to getting enough rest. Find a way to do one of these ideas every now and then — get a massage, see a movie with a friend, go out to lunch, go shopping, do yoga or workout. It’s a good way to treat yourself and ensure that you’re making time for you.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, always remember that you are doing an amazing job with your kids. If you need a little reminder, read this letter written for all exhausted moms and know that you are enough. Also, don’t forget to show your mom how much you appreciate all the work she’s put in to raise you.

Share this article with your family and friends and let them know that every mom deserves an award for working an equivalent of 2.5 full-time jobs, and remember, for zero pay too (except for some precious cuddles)! That right there is the essence of unconditional love.
