The Simple Drink That Resets The Gut and Restores Good Bacteria (Full Recipe)
Are you craving an exotic flavor? Would you like to drink flowers? How about trying an exciting new taste while also healing your beloved gut?!

Yes, you heard me right! In today’s recipe, we will be using rosewater, cardamom, and yogurt to make a refreshing and healthful drink. Interesting combination, isn’t it? This tasteful drink is brought to you with South Asian roots!

The Need to Heal Your Gut

When I learned about this recipe, I knew I had to share it with you! The base ingredient in this drink is yogurt. Yogurt is full of probiotics, healthy bacteria your gut needs! We also include kefir, which, has more probiotics than yogurt!

An unhealthy gut, by which I mean an imbalanced gut, can lead to a host of health problems. Autoimmune illnesses, mental health challenges, diabetes, skin disorders, upset stomach, weight problems, IBS and even acid reflux can all be triggered or made worse by an unhealthy gut environment. According to guthealthproject.com, the ideal balance we want in our gut is 80% good bacteria and 20% bad bacteria.

These days, it’s easy to end up with a gut imbalance, and not even realize it! Antibiotics and a processed diet are two big culprits that can lead to a gut imbalance in the modern world. In fact, even a single dose of an antibiotic can have a negative effect on the gut. Detoxing and eating a clean diet can help heal our gut.

Yogurt

As I mentioned earlier, yogurt is full of probiotics that are good for your gut. Probiotics help your body better digest food, get rid of waste, increase your immune health, and help your metabolism. In other words, they can better our bodies in holistic and multiple ways.

For example, researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles found that probiotics affect the brain in a way that lets our bodies respond better to stress, pain and anxiety. The source of probiotics in the study was actually yogurt as well!

When looking for which yogurt to use, we want one that says “live and active cultures” on the box, which means that yogurt has probiotics in it. According to Dr. Murray, our “intestinal flora” has a big effect on our health. Probiotics can help manage that.

Cardamom

Another key ingredient in our drink is the aphrodisiac cardamom. This flavourful spice has a highly aromatic scent that will relax our muscles and ease any headaches. This aroma’s ability to relax muscles can also help with asthma!

Along our discussion on the gut, adding this spice to our gut-loving drink increases its ability to help with your digestive systems. For example, it helps our stomachs give up the “food” to the intestines (where a lot of the absorption of nutrients happens) more smoothly. It also allows for easier digestion of heavy or acidic foods.

It also works as an antioxidant, cleansing the skin and lymphatic system. Researchers at the College of Pharmacy of King Saud University, Saudia Arabia found that cardamom benefited patients with cardiovascular problems. It lowered their blood pressure and lead to a lower and more rhythmic heart beat. It is also anti-cancerous, as it can help prevent and work against colon cancer.

Rosewater

You may already be using rosewater in your beauty regime, but did you know that it’s used in cuisine as well? Provided the rose water is 100% percent natural and free of chemicals, it’s safe to digest. In fact, roses can help with digestion!

Due to its antiseptic qualities, it can help kill bad bacteria. According to Juice Press’s chairman of the science advisory board, rosewater can help the balance the gut by decreasing bad bacteria. In addition to that, roses can detoxify the  intestines and  also help with stomach problems.

Rosewater, specifically the water derived from the rose type Rosa Centifolia, is a popular ingredient in ayurvedic medicine. Rosewater is full of vitamins, such as vitamins A, B, C, and E. In addition to antiseptic qualities, it also works against inflammation and is a potent antioxidant.

We will be using rosewater in our elixir, and the scent is sure to be memorable. The smell of good quality rose water is soothing, relaxing and can ease anxiety. In fact, one of the uses of roses in Ayurveda is to ease anxiety and ignite loving thoughts and relaxing feelings.

Here is a recipe of a delicious and healthful drink including all of these recipes, along with kefir, honey, and coconut milk. I can already taste it! Just thinking about it can feel therapeutic!
