Treat Ear Infections With These Natural Antibiotics Before Visiting Your Doctor

The common ear infection, otherwise known as Acute Otitis Media (AOM), often occurs in young children who are frequently exposed to germs but adults can also be afflicted. There is still confusion as to whether it is a good idea to administer antibiotics in these cases. Antibiotics have generally been prescribed as a safeguard to bacterial illnesses which may be present.

It has been reported, however, that 60% of cases of AOM will resolve themselves within 24 hours and 80% of cases within 3 days – all without the use of antibiotics. It turns out that  AOM is actually responsible for a large number of the antibiotics prescribed to US children. Overprescription of antibiotics has been linked to the development and spread of resistant bacteria.


If you’re a parent or have ever cared for children, then you definitely know that acute illnesses get worse at night. Earaches can cause harsh pain and keep children (and parents) up all night. As a parent, you always want to ensure that you children never experiences pain, and do everything in your power to keep them from it.

An important thing to remember is the stress that comes with acute illnesses as well. So however you can ensure a calm environment or calm the ill child will help greatly with their recovery. Maybe some herbal tea sweetened with honey so that they’ll be more inclined to drink it.

Next, you could prepare a hot bottle or use a heating pad and have your child lay their head on it with the side of the affected ear. Heat does seem to help ease the pain from the earache. Another great homemade remedy is garlic oil. It’s very effective and can be prepared in about half an hour.

Garlic is antimicrobial, which means it stops the growth of bacteria, viruses and fungi. It has even been found to be effective against various strains of bacteria who have become resistant to antibiotics.

Garlic Oil For Earaches



5 cloves of fresh garlic

¼ cup of organic, raw olive oil


To start, peel and crush the fresh cloves of garlic, place them in a small pan and cover them completely with the olive oil. You want the heat on the pan to be very low so that you only warm the olive oil and don’t cook the garlic cloves. If you have a small crockpot you can combine the oil and garlic and set the crockpot on high for 30 minutes, then lower the temperature.


Allow the mixture to sit for 30 minutes. The longer you let the mixture sit, the stronger the infusion will be. Strain just how much you need and allow the rest of the mixture to continue soaking overnight.

How To Use

First, test the temperature of the oil by placing a small drop on the inside of your wrist. Once you know that the oil is not too hot, fill the ear channel completely with the oil and place a clean piece of cotton in the ear to keep the oil from seeping out. Make sure to repeat for the other ear, as the infection can spread. Let the oil sit for at least 2-5 minutes.

You don’t have to always rely on antibiotics when you or your child are feeling ill. You’d be surprised how easy it is to heal yourself with things that you have lying around your kitchen!
